Card game and board game suggestions
« on: September 14, 2014, 12:17:05 AM »
Here are some games my students love to play:

Apples to Apples Junior:
Extremely easy for all ages.  Great for learning new adjectives.

Disney Apples to Apples:
Just like the Junior version, but with Disney characters and picture on the cards.  Recommended if the students can't read very well.

Apples to Apples:
Same as above, but more difficult words.  Good for high level students.

Better for higher level students.  The cards have no words, only pictures.  The students have to describe what's on the card, but vaguely enough that the other students can't guess it exactly.  I mostly played this with high school and university students and they LOVED it.

Taboo Junior:
Each card has 4 words.  The students must try to get their teammates to guess the top word without saying the other 3 words on the card.  The Junior edition is best for all ages, but unfortunately it has been out of print for a long time, so it's pretty expensive.

Same as above, but the words are much more difficult.

Good for learning colors and numbers or as just a fun game to reward the students.

It's like scrabble, but without the board.  Each student is given some letter tiles and they try to make as many connecting words as they can.  If they use up all their tiles they can grab more from the pile in the middle.  It's a little more challenging, but good for higher levels.

I would suggest a couple of more complicated board games as well. Just so that there's an option for the more interested in such things.
